Hunterdon Medical Center Becomes Only NJ Hospital To Offer Non-Surgical Hemorrhoid Procedure
FLEMINGTON, N.J., March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunterdon Medical Center announced it is now the only hospital in New Jersey offering patients a new, non-surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids: the HET™ System.
The HET System applies a combination of gentle tissue compression and mild heat to remove or significantly shrink internal hemorrhoids. The cost-effective procedure is now available at Advanced Gastroenterology and Nutrition and is completed within a single-visit with minimal discomfort, and allows patients to resume their normal, active lifestyles quickly.
"This new treatment is having a dramatic impact on patients who suffer from hemorrhoids," explains Stephen Willis, M.D., Gastroenterologist, Advanced Gastroenterology and Nutrition. "Following treatment, we see remarkable improvement in the patient's symptoms and an impressive reduction in the size of the treated hemorrhoids."
Nearly 75 percent of people have symptomatic hemorrhoids at some point in their lives and 50 percent of people over the age of 50 suffer from chronic hemorrhoid problems. Historically, hemorrhoid sufferers have been treated with a rubber banding procedure that often causes pain and discomfort after the treatment.
"The rubber banding procedure often requires multiple procedures over the course of a few months, and many patients experience severe pain and discomfort," says Jeffrey Hartford, M.D., Gastroenterologist, Advanced Gastroenterology and Nutrition. "The HET system allows us to treat most patients with a five-minute procedure that has little to no post-treatment discomfort and follow up procedures."
Advanced Gastroenterology and Nutrition, a specialty practice of Hunterdon Healthcare, has offices in Flemington and Asbury, NJ. For more information about the procedure or to schedule an appointment, call 908.788.4022.
