Hyperdynamics Supported, 'American Friends of Guinea' Reports Success for 2010 Programs

Financial resource base grows, supporting expansion plans

HOUSTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Friends of Guinea ("AFG"), a tax exempt non-profit targeting medical relief and disease prevention in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa, reported its project(s)' success in 2010.  Mrs. Diaraye Sylla Kourouma, AFG's President (aka "Bebe"), reported that the continued funding and staunch support from its key donors, such as  Hyperdynamics Corporation (Amex: HDY), has provided the resources for AFG to accomplish the following 2010 projects:

In March a water well project was completed in the Jean Paul II Hospital in the city of Ratoma. This well now provides clean potable water for them. Participating in a ceremony at the conclusion of the project were the hospital management, the minister of Social Services, and the General Secretary of Health for Guinea. The event was televised and broadcast nationwide on RGTV. The next phase of the project will be to provide the plumbing system necessary to bring the clean water into the hospital. This will provide the necessary foundation of required hygiene for the hospital to be able to prevent the spread of disease within its facilities.

Working with the New York based EngenderHealth ("EH"), AFG has gifted numerous surgical kits to women undergoing obstetrical fistula repair. These kits were able to help EH to substantially increase, possibly tripling, the number of afflicted women  receiving the procedure. In many cases, AFG delivered the kits directly to the women in need.  It was reported that EH performs these surgical repair procedures every other month throughout Guinea.

AFG now plans to start a new project in Guinea to support medical students from the University Gamal Abdel Nazer in Conakry by sponsoring their 2010 curriculum required health fair. This year the students are taking the health fair to the city of Dalaba, about 200 miles from Conakry, the capital. The students will give disease prevention health seminars. They will also perform health assessments and plan to refer any seriously ill people to hospitals for proper care. The seminar topics will cover hypertension, diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, and treatments for many minor ailments.  AFG is providing the students with many supplies including blood pressure cuffs, glucometers, thermometers, condoms, bandages, first aid kits, and hundreds of mosquito nets. 

Last but surely not least, Bebe was introduced to hydrocephalus stricken children and their parents.  Based on her report, AFG is now preparing to attack this debilitating and deadly affliction of babies and small children in Guinea.  More details will be announced about this new project.
