ICI Aims to Set High Standards with New Method for Calibrating Boson Longwave Infrared Cameras

BEAUMONT, Texas, March 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Already famed for its reduced size, weight, and low power consumption sensors, Infrared Cameras, Inc. (ICI) has devised a method for calibrating FLIR Boson cameras enabling quantitative temperature measurement. Calibration turns the Boson into a fully radiometric IR camera capable of providing per-pixel temperature data, whereas a Boson lacking this calibration will strictly be a qualitative imager without temperature data. ICI is projected to begin supplying calibrated Boson cameras as early as the first quarter of 2020.

The calibrated Boson will pack radiometric accuracy and unmatched image quality into a single device with a 12 μm pixel pitch. To meet a wide range of customer needs, ICI will offer two different calibration ranges: a standard range of -20 °C to 120 °C (-4 °F to 248 °F), and a high temperature range of 0 °C to 500 °C (32 °F to 932 °F). Advanced image processing, video analytics, peripheral sensor drivers, and industry-standard communication interfaces allow for straightforward integration into custom applications. 

Soon ICI will also be providing a service that will allow customers with pre-existing Bosons to have them calibrated for use in custom applications where temperature measurements are required.

Several optics that are currently available for standard Bosons can also be used on radiometric Bosons. No additional heavy components are required, which means calibrated Boson cameras maintain the light weight, versatile design, and low power consumption of standard Boson cameras.
