With over 15 years of experience in senior positions advising and building contingent workforce programs, Shaw's perspective and industry acumen will add to the substantial depth and delivery of ICon's technology development and globally advancing strategic initiatives.
"The addition of a COO is key to the execution of ICon's strategic initiatives and leadership role in the future of contingent workforce services. Dana Shaw has been a valued contributor over the past 2 years as an ICon advisory board member, adding to her unique qualifications as a leader and visionary in ICon's future," commented Patricia Griffin, chief executive officer and founder of ICon. "Her leadership and expertise comes at an exciting time as ICon further enhances our global commitments and strength. There is no doubt that she will play a pivotal role in accelerating our growth and I am excited about our continued investments in supporting our valued customers in the key global markets they serve."
With the growth of the independent contractor workforce outpacing temporary staffing 3 to 1, companies are increasingly competing for the critical and highly talented on-demand skill sets of independents while navigating the inherent complex risks of engaging this talent. ICon enables companies to safely and expediently engage with independent contractors by providing unsurpassed risk mitigation and workforce management solutions that combine a powerful software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology with comprehensive compliance and workflow expertise. "Our clients represent leaders in their space; their operational models and talent strategies are very dynamic and sophisticated. As a result, the challenges that they face need the tailored solutions and expertise that only ICon, with our track record, can deliver," added Griffin.
In her new role, Shaw will be responsible for leading the development and execution of ICon's product and service strategy, partnerships, worldwide sales, marketing and day-to-day operations.
"Having been both an advisor to, and partner of ICon, I have first-hand knowledge of the company and they are distinctively positioned to leverage their leading-edge technology and command of the complex ecosystem surrounding contingent labor," said Shaw. "ICon arguably has always set the standard in this space, and I look forward to adding my own global experience to accelerate scalable customer successes and continue our focus on delivering only the highest caliber solutions to our clients."
As the fundamental nature of employment continues to change—evolving from the traditional understanding of temporary labor to fractionated categories that include short-term employees, temporary workers, statement-of-work (SOW) or project-based workers and contractors—so does the broadening definition of compliance. "There is a definite shift occurring from the expanding definition of compliance and therefore the supply and demand curve surrounding this is also in transition," said Shaw. "Previously the focus was on a specific category of the contingent workforce; now, organizations must consider the entire scope of non-employee labor and the impact of this wide-ranging compliance definition. Client education is critical, and ICon is ready to drive value and assist our clients in gaining visibility beyond the traditional view of temporary labor so they can unveil the workforce that lies beneath their talent strategy."
Shaw most recently served as global vice president heading up the industry's largest vendor-neutral program in over 45 countries. Additionally, Shaw led the Managed Service Provider (MSP) Center of Excellence for TAPFIN, part of ManpowerGroup Solutions, where she was responsible for efficiently driving a framework for delivering streamlined global management of workforce providers across 82 countries. Prior to TAPFIN, Shaw was the senior vice president of strategy and solutions at Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA), where she consulted with a broad range of staffing, solutions, and Fortune 500 companies on how to advance their business models and optimize their contingent labor programs. Shaw also led SIA's strategic initiatives related to sales, member services, and all buyer-related research, content, conferences, and webinars. She was also featured in more than 100 public forums as a leader in helping companies anticipate what's next and frequently tackled challenging industry topics around proprietary technology and vendor management systems (VMS), compliance, training, implementation, global sales, ROI modeling, and communication.
