ID Tweet & Public Power Launch 'Green Machine' Program

ORLANDO, Fla., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- ID Tweet, an Orlando marketing company, has announced an initiative to plant over 500,000 trees in 2010 with its client, Public Power of Danbury, Connecticut.  Their joint program, called Green Machine, is part of the two companies' commitment to battle the climate crisis by putting one billion cubic tons of oxygen back into the environment through their planting efforts.

Public Power is a licensed electricity supplier created as a result of industry deregulation, which offers consumers an alternative choice to utilities in deregulated states. The company delivers the same supply to residences, businesses and municipalities that they are accustomed to but generally at a much lower rate.

For every customer that makes the switch, Public Power and ID Tweet have agreed to purchase twelve Douglas fir trees. Once mature, these twelve trees will absorb approximately 576 pounds of CO2 per year and release enough oxygen to sustain twenty-four human beings. The U.S. Forest Service and Arbor Day Foundation are handling the logistics of reforestation and planting the trees.

"We wanted to create a program that would have an immediate and long-term effect on the environment," explained Beaudon Spaulding, CEO of ID Tweet. "Planting trees has so many benefits, and it's also a way for Public Power's new customers to feel they are directly contributing toward improving our planet."

In March, 25,000 trees were purchased through the Green Machine program and another 50,000 are expected to be purchased in April. The trees come from local nurseries.

Currently, Public Power offers service to customers in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania. By May, Public Power expects to make its service available in New Jersey, Illinois and Maryland. Other states will soon follow. The company has an ambitious growth plan to service hundreds of thousands of customers within the next two years.

"The Green Machine program will continue indefinitely," said Gries, "as will our commitment to the environment." Public Power obtains a portion of its power from renewable energy sources.

Customers who want to change from their old, high-priced utility company to Public Power will find the process is seamless. The process takes just a few minutes. The actual switch is seamless and takes just a few minutes. Customers will still receive the same bill from their existing local utility; however, they can expect that bill to save money on the generation portion of their bill.
