IDA Games Announces Debut Title Beyond Dark With 30,000 Beta Sign-Ups Will be Officially Released in Mid-2017
IDA Games has Revealed that its New Eagerly Awaited Space Strategy Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Game Experience Beyond Dark is Scheduled for a Mid-2017 Release
LONDON, Dec. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, IDA Games, an innovative games development studio leading the charge in creating next-generation immersive video games, has confirmed that the much-anticipated general release of Beyond Dark will take place in the middle of next year. In development since 2015, the pending Beta version instantly attracted 30,000 sign-ups, which lead to acceptance by the respected Steam platform within days.
The pre-launch viral effect can be attributed to Beyond Dark's seamless scalability in one gigantic and persistent online galaxy. It also stands out as the first game of its kind to successfully combine tens of thousands of players, 4X gameplay and long-running real-time strategy. Set in the Andromeda Galaxy, players will explore and interact against a backdrop of millions of stars and planets. Gameplay is continuous, with all units operating under a configurable Artificial intelligence (AI) when players are offline.
"Building a 4X game engine to handle this incredibly large universe was a challenge – one which other development studios have shied away from. I've worked on AAA multiplayer titles, and in previous games, only a small proportion of players were online simultaneously. When players went offline, we didn't need to process their gameplay," expressed, Oleksandr Maniliuk, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), IDA Games. "With Beyond Dark, players can have many units and give orders such as travel to a new system or intercept another ship. If the player goes offline, those units must still be processed as per player orders. Other players must still be able to interact with those units. In other ordinary MMOs, players have one unit which disappears when they log out. This was a tremendous challenge when building our own game engine for Beyond Dark. We've achieved something extraordinary."
With 12 contrasting civilizations to choose from, players join the game with one colonized planet and one ship. From there the player will expand and maintain their empire, either alone, or through alliances with other gamers. Player designed ships are formed into tactical fleets for commercial, civic, and military purposes. Other key gameplay features include: Combat, Diplomacy, Trade, Espionage, Exploration, and Advanced Technological Research.
Beyond Dark's initial release will be on PC and Mac with mobile follow-ups a possibility.
