If Crowd Enthusiasm And Applause Level Are An Indication, Congressional Candidate Joe Kaufman Came Off In Debate As The Presumptive Candidate To Unseat Debbie Wasserman Schultz
DAVIE, Fla., July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It was apparent to many that Joe Kaufman, Republican Congressional Candidate in Florida's 23rd District, took control at the recent Broward Republican Executive Committee Debate and emerged the winner.
More than 300 people applauded what Kaufman had to say about solving problems and addressing state, national and foreign policy issues.
About the U.S. Supreme Court's Ruling upholding the core of ObamaCare, he said: "ObamaCare is socialism through and through. We have prices going up and problems that need to be resolved, but we can do that in a few simple ways: having health insurance companies compete across state lines; tort reform to stop frivolous law suits; and addressing preexisting conditions with the use of risk pools."
Asked what single program spending item needed to be cut that benefits the residents of Broward and Miami-Dade County, Kaufman responded he would not want to get rid of anything that benefits Florida, but he would do away with the FCAT, calling it "ineffective."
When asked about President Obama's recent immigration move he said: "This is all about politics, and frankly it was unconstitutional. We have to embrace legal immigrants, but what we cannot embrace are those crossing our borders, trampling on our constitution." Kaufman discussed how Hezbollah terrorists are entering the U.S. via Venezuela and Columbia.
During the debate, Kaufman's opponent Ozzie DeFaria was caught using pre-prepared notes that were eventually confiscated by debate officials, as this was in violation of the agreed upon rules. Gineen Bresso, who along with Wasserman Schultz was the only candidate to not collect enough signatures to get on the ballot, had trouble with many of the debate questions. Karen Harrington was a no-show.
In interviews today, Kaufman expanded his remarks on the Supreme Court's 5 to 4 vote upholding the core of Obamacare, saying the "Employer Responsibility" provision is going to hurt job creation, because it forces employers to hire fewer workers for fear of heavy fines.
"The President won a battle, but he'll lose the war, as voters are dead set against his socialist agenda and will defeat him in November as I will defeat his Defender-In-Chief, Congresswoman Schultz."
