NEW YORK, April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Squeaky Wheel Media is pleased to announce that its brainchild, IHadCancer.com has been nominated for both Best Social Media Website and Best Community Website in the 16th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising and media, online film and video, and mobile and apps.
"I Had Cancer is like the Facebook for cancer," says founder, Mailet Lopez. "but where Facebook is for connecting with the people you know, I Had Cancer is for connecting with the people you don't know but you should." Inspired by the struggles of her own battle with cancer, Lopez created the social network to meet the need she saw for cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones to be able to easily find others in similar situations to their own.
"We're beyond psyched to be nominated for another Webby!" according to Anthony Del Monte, President of Squeaky Wheel Media. "This recognition is a great honor for our small agency and the fact that we are competing with companies like Google, Pinterest and Yahoo just goes to show that the work we are incubating in our studio is tremendous."
As a nominee, I Had Cancer is also eligible to win a Webby People's Voice Award, which is voted for online by the public. From now until April 26, you can cast your votes for Best Community Website at: http://pv.webbyawards.com/ballot/2 and Best Social Media Website at: http://pv.webbyawards.com/ballot/4
The Webby Award and Webby People's Voice Award Winners will be announced on May 1, 2012. Winners will be honored at the 16th Annual Webby Awards hosted by Patton Oswalt at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City and live streamed on webbyawards.com on May 21, 2012.
