IIC, IDB and Rabobank Reaffirm their Commitment to Continue their Support for SuKarne's Productive and Social Projects

MEXICO CITY, May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chairman of the Board of SuKarne, Jesus Vizcarra, met in Mexico City with Jacques Rogozinsky, General Manager of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) a member institution of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, in appreciation of the bank's support for the construction and operation of  the SuKarne plant in Nicaragua for intensive and industrial cattle feeding.

SuKarne's involvement in the Central American country has so far required a combined investment of 40 million dollars, with half of this funding provided by the IIC, and initially by Rabobank, the largest bank in the world engaged in the agricultural sector, headed in Mexico by Manuel Gonzalez.

During the meeting, Jacques Rogozinsky said that the IIC seeks partnerships with companies with sustainable growth and a global business vision, but above all with a definite social commitment, as is the case with SuKarne.

He underscored that Mexico needs more companies like SuKarne, that seek not only to export their products but also undertake to have an active presence outside their home countries. When that happens, countries such as Mexico will better be able to solve the problem of economic growth.

For his part, Jesus Vizcarra said that this investment constitutes a substantial economic and social contribution by SuKarne to drive regional development and strengthen trade relations between Mexico and Nicaragua.

He also stated that the livestock industry in Mexico is ready to play a major role in building the national economy, considering that in the next 10 years it could generate more than 100 thousand jobs and contribute more than 10 billion dollars to our country's economy, improving the quality of life for people living in rural areas.

"We are convinced that SuKarne will be one of the engines driving this development," affirmed Mr. Vizcarra, the Chairman of the Board. In 2011 SuKarne had sales of 419 thousand tons of beef, pork and chicken. For 2012 he is projecting growth on the order of 30 per cent, reaching 540 thousand tons.

Jesus Vizcarra particularly acknowledged Rabobank and its executives, in view of the company's 15-year relationship with this institution, and "because with its broad experience and vision in the food industry, it has helped us to improve our focus and set up growth opportunities for the company and our country," he noted.

At the same time, Vizcarra Calderon pointed out that work is underway to firm up an agreement with the IDB that will make it possible to significantly expand the social program Salud Digna, an effort also chaired by Mr. Vizcarra oriented to improve the health services for lower income groups both in Mexico and the United States. All ready this month in Ensenada, Baja California, Salud Digna will be opening its 18th in a series of diagnostic clinics, which also includes one which provides services for the Latino community in Los Angeles, California.

"We were very pleased to receive the news that Salud Digna is eligible to take part in the health programs of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This will enable us to expand from 18 to 55 clinics to serve a greater number of needy families in Mexico and the United States," raising the possibility that the Rabobank Foundation may also join in on the project.

The representative of the "Instituto Carlos Slim para la Salud" [Carlos Slim Health Institute], also present at the event, noted the importance of joining forces with the Salud Digna, program, considering that this will allow for a new preventive approach to early disease detection, in some cases by at least 10 years sooner than would have normally been the case. This, will not only result in improved medical benefits, but also in savings of many millions of dollars now spent on care and treatment of patients.

The savings to be achieved by this new approach are particularly significant since it is estimated that within a few years current health budgets could be totally taken up with the five most serious diseases afflicting the public: diabetes, hypertension, obesity, heart failure and kidney problems.

Also attended at the event were members of Inter-American Investment Corporation staff, Rabobank executives and Board Members of SuKarne.
