I'll Fly Away Foundation to host Power of Music Festival in Bentonville
BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/-- The I'll Fly Away Foundation will host a multi-genre songwriter festival in Bentonville from April 27-29, where musicians and songwriters from around the world will gather in Northwest Arkansas to host shows in nine Bentonville venues and support the foundation's community outreach through music education.
I'll Fly Away was founded by the Betsy Brumley, granddaughter of renowned gospel songwriter Albert E. Brumley, who wrote the world-famous song I'll Fly Away in 1929. The foundation continues the gospel legend's legacy of education and empowerment through music, hosting songwriting workshops in schools and providing young musicians with lessons and equipment.
The foundation's You Can Fly Songwriting Program works with public schools to introduce 3rd and 5th graders to the fun and benefits of songwriting, pairing a class with a songwriter to come up with tunes and lyrics about the subjects they are learning about in class.
Since its launch in 2011, I'll Fly Away has influenced the lives of more than two thousand elementary school students through the power of music.
Statistics show that graduation rates for high schools with music programs are nearly 20% higher than those without, along with increased attendance.
I'll Fly Away has worked with students and educators in Missouri and Oklahoma, and hopes to use the success of the Power of Music Festival to support its expansion to reach the 15,000 3rd and 5th grade students in Benton and Washington counties.
The Power of Music Festival kicks off Thursday, April 27 with a performance by The Accidentals at 11:30 a.m. Tickets and passes are available at pomfestival.org/tickets, ranging from daily admission to a Weekend Fast Pass.
