To be considered for the $20,000 Compact Car Challenge, each car had to have an EPA-estimated fuel-economy rating of at least 28 miles per gallon in addition to having a price cap of $20,000 with shipping. With the help of the Forte's 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Forte effortlessly meets the fuel-economy requirement with a combined fuel-economy estimate of 29 mpg.
