The website Immortum.com is set to re-launch today in order to coincide with the opening of the Compassion & Choices Conference in Chicago. It will enable a significant number of people facing end of life issues to be connected under one address. Founder David Levey revamped the site to give patients and their families a network of caring and understanding.

Levey said the "core mission" of Immortum is still intact and will stay free to users. His inspiration for creating the site came through the experiences of a little girl who lost her mother. "It was a life changing experience to see her devastated," said Levey, the father of a young child himself. "That girl would not have her mum when she graduated from high school, experienced her first kiss or had her first child. That was how Immortum was born."

The site is now more user-friendly and integrated for gathering chosen friends through modern methods of connectivity. Patients can leave messages to their loved ones to be posted immediately or in the future. Privacy and posting is set by the patient. Levey said that having experts at hand for the patients could benefit the users and health professionals. "By connecting the experts to those in need, we've developed a powerful tool," said Levey. "I have a whole army of experts and patients behind me that made the new Immortum possible. Patients can now ask questions of hospice experts, clergy, nurses, doctors and industry leaders. Those experts can talk to one another, sound off on what's working, and even complain about what's not."
