MIAMI, April 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- IMUSA and Sedano's Supermarkets, both headquartered in South Florida, raised $63,000 during their 2012 campaign. It's the third year of their partnership to raise money and promote Autism awareness and research. Customers in all 34 Sedano's Supermarkets purchase $1 puzzle pieces.
IMUSA is the first cookware company to support Autism as its philanthropy of choice. Manny Gaunaurd, IMUSA president, today announced that, "Underwriting the first qualitative research for Hispanic families affected by Autism, launching fundraising events that support and promote awareness and research during Autism Awareness Month including the program with Sedano's Supermarkets, and leading Miami's 2012 Walk for Autism fundraising event, are ways that IMUSA supports Autism Speaks."
The CDC's new estimate of autism prevalence - 1 in 88 children in the United States - demands that Autism be recognized as a public health emergency.
No one is untouched by the pervasiveness of this condition with its profound effects on function and quality of life and its tremendous economic burden on families and society at large. Additionally, the annual cost of Autism in the United States is $126 billion annually, more than tripling the cost analysis from six years ago.
"These statistics are staggering and profound," says Manny Gaunaurd, president of IMUSA, the global leader in ethnic cookware. "Behind these numbers are real families, real individuals struggling every day. They are why IMUSA continues to work with Autism Speaks as our philanthropy of choice."
"Three years ago, we forged a proud partnership with IMUSA and Autism Speaks to give back to the community we serve. Together, IMUSA, Sedano's management, staff, and customers have raised about $150,000 to benefit Autism Speaks," reports Javier Herran, Sedano's Supermarkets.
