Industry, government, and academic experts will address the nexus of IP and green technology
WASHINGTON, April 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in collaboration with the Science Diplomats' Club, Washington, D.C., Diplomacy Matters Institute is organizing a one-day conference on Intellectual Property (IP) protection for green technology development and commercialization.
While the announcement of the event is timed to coincide with World IP Day, the conference itself will be held on June 1, 2011 at the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Participants will include senior embassy officials from as many as 30 countries.
Entitled "IP and Green Tech: Accelerating Commercialization & Promoting Global Innovation," the conference will address topics such as the role of IP in tech transfer and technology diffusion both domestically and globally; the Cancun Technology Mechanism; reverse innovation; case studies of industry green tech initiatives; and federal/state government green tech incentives and public-private partnerships.
Emphasizing the benefit of global dialogues such as this, David Kappos, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, states, "It is important that policy makers around the world understand the critical role of intellectual property in accelerating innovation in green technology. Every day an important new green tech innovation is held back from the market is another day we harm our planet and another day lost in creating new green businesses and green jobs."
