In Honor of the First President Washington County, PA Launches the Region's First (we think) Tourism App
WASHINGTON, Pa., Feb. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- According to J.R. Shaw, executive director of Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency (WCTPA), this is big.
"Maybe not revolutionary," he adds, "but BIG."
The WCTPA just launched its own free App – quite possibly the first tourism app in the region, if not the entire commonwealth. Available as a free download via the VisitWashingtonCountyPa mobile site (http://m.visitwashingtoncountypa.com/), the App offers smartphone users on-the-road access to 3 MB worth of information.
"It's all there," Shaw says, "sites and attractions, hotels and restaurants, festivals and events, as well as the 'Nearby Me' feature and the option to share experiences, adventures and photos right to Facebook and Twitter."
The App is just the newest medium used for promoting the Washington County tourism message. In addition to the Official Visitors Guide (a 64-page printed magazine) and the website (VisitWashingtonCountyPa.com), the promotion agency recently introduced its very own mobile site.
"We're responding to the ever-evolving, ever-changing needs of the traveling public," Shaw explains. "Clearly, people want real-time information in the palm of their hands – literally. When planning a weekend getaway or family vacation, people want the freedom that only that kind of information can provide."
Washington County is home to the new Meadows Racetrack & Casino, the Washington Wild Things baseball team at CONSOL Energy Park and PONY Baseball and Softball.
Washington County, PA offers everything from malls (Washington Crown Center and Washington Mall) to specialty stores (The Spring House, Trax Farms and Sarris Candies); Tanger Outlets to The Riverside Village Shoppes, The Shoppes at Quail Acres and The Shoppes at Scenery Hill; and farmers' markets to 84 Alpacas at Linwood Farms.
The county's heritage sites include 22 covered bridges, The David Bradford House, Duncan & Miller Glass Museum, The LeMoyne House, Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, the National Road and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
