Indiana Stop-Sale System Achieves Significant Monthly Results In Battle Against Meth
Electronic Technology Blocks Illegal Sales & Allows Legal Ones
LUTHERVILLE, Md., Feb. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion – today lauded the latest monthly results achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system in Indiana. Data released by the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) shows electronic technology in the Hoosier State – in just one month – blocked the sale of more than 11,000 of medicines containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) from being sold keeping a total of more than 26,000 grams out of the hands of meth criminals.
"In just a few short months since implementation, Indiana's real-time, stop-sale technology has provided law enforcement with a critical new tool in the fight against methamphetamine production and use, and the results are impressive. NPLEx stops illegal pseudoephedrine sales right at the counter, ensures that responsible Indiana workers and families are not restricted from accessing safe and affordable medicines, and provides law enforcement officials with a critical new tool in the fight against meth," said Charles F. Cichon, executive director of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI). "The prevention of more than 26,000 grams in unlawful PSE sales last month is proof positive that NPLEx is keeping PSE out of the hands of meth criminals. Members of the Indiana Legislature are to be commended for putting into place a system that targets criminals, not law-abiding Indianans."
