The fun and interactive event will cover dozens of issues common to kindergarten teachers. Over two days, teachers will examine how to put the fun back into teaching the standards, differentiate instruction to reach all levels of learners, support struggling kindergartners, and get more out of centers and small-group instruction.
In addition, participants will learn new and better ways to "fit it all in"—a constant struggle for kindergarten teachers. "Day in and day out, papers pile up, interruptions are non-stop, and teachers wonder how they'll ever get everything done. To top it all off, with the standards and new expectations, a teacher's job will only get more hectic. This conference is the place to identify new and better ways to handle these and the many other challenges they're up against, " SDE program developer Beth Nee says.
Rather than just touching on theory, the focus is on the concrete skills that are critical to helping teachers be more effective and successful on the job. "Teachers will have the rare opportunity to step back from the day-to-day and assess the pluses and minuses of their current practices. They'll peek into real classrooms and see how fun and the standards fit in. They'll gain new insight into guided math, close reading, kindergarten behavior, interventions, and many other relevant areas," says Nee.
A line-up of experienced and knowledgeable presenters features five kindergarten experts, including popular authors and bloggers. Dan St. Romain will kick off the conference with an inspiring keynote on the many ways teachers can make a difference. On the second day, Sandi Reyes will deliver a keynote on how teachers can get their children to know, like, and trust them.
In addition, two Florida state educators will provide content specific to the Florida standards which teachers can immediately apply in their classrooms.
