ST. LOUIS, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- INROADS, Inc., a non-profit focused on development and career preparation for talented, underserved youth, is pleased to announce the appointment of Barron M. Witherspoon, Sr., Vice President of Corporate Industry Affairs for The Procter & Gamble Company to chairman of the National Board of Directors.
"I'm honored to assume this position and have the opportunity to serve such an impactful organization in its continued pursuit of its mission," said Mr. Witherspoon. "INROADS has been transforming lives for more than 40 years. We need to begin the next 40 years with urgent focus on our two-pronged approach of fund development and program development, creating a virtuous cycle where one feeds the other."
Since joining the INROADS Board of Directors in 2009, Mr. Witherspoon has served as Vice-chairman of the Board and chairman of the Development Committee. "As a member of the development committee for more than two years, Barron knows the importance of ensuring the necessary support for program innovation," said Forest Harper, INROADS President and CEO. "I look forward to him bringing that insight – along with his expertise in customer relations and organizational leadership – to this new leadership role."
Witherspoon's 30-year history in consumer packaged goods (CPG) at P&G began in field advertising and progressed through positions of increasing responsibility in customer business development across multiple categories, customers and global regions. In his current position, he is responsible for influencing external thought leaders and shaping the CPG industry to maximize P&G's value. In his previous role as vice president of Global Operations for Strategic Revenue and Pricing, he developed P&G's revenue strategy playbook and taught over 300 general managers and Brand Builders to develop and execute revenue growth strategies.
Prior to that, Mr. Witherspoon served as sales VP for Asia, responsible for all of P&G's customer-facing operations in ASEAN (Southeast Asia), Australasia, India and Korea. Based in Singapore, he grew P&G's business in a trading environment of over 7 million retail outlets — the highest store concentration in the world. His region served a third of the world's consumers and included revenue of $3 billion. Barron also led P&G's $5 billion global Paper Business with Walmart, the company's largest customer.
A published author and accomplished public speaker, Mr. Witherspoon was also an eminent scholar and college exchange student in Konstanz, Germany. He has earned degrees in education from Brevard College and in economics from Tuskegee University. He is a licensed, ordained minister and has held numerous board positions for civic and industry organizations.
