BALTIMORE, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It's never too early to instill in children the importance of community service. "Cara Cookie Volunteers," the first children's book released by the Baltimore-based nonprofit Karma for Cara Foundation, tells the story of a young girl named Cara and her first volunteer experience. Starting last month, copies of "Cara Cookie Volunteers" began being distributed to elementary schools and libraries throughout Baltimore and Chicago. Plans are in the works to expand distribution of the book, free of charge, nationwide.
The children's book is designed to start the discussion between children, parents and teachers about philanthropy and the importance of building the next generation of community-minded volunteers. Each book includes suggested volunteer activities for children between the ages of 4-8 years old.
"Cara Cookie Volunteers"shares the real-life story of Cara Becker, the 21-year-old founder of the Karma for Cara Foundation, which she started with the help of her family in October 2012 while she was undergoing treatment for leukemia at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Cara passed away in December 2012, but her dream lives on through the works of the Karma for Cara Foundation.
"Cara was a strong believer in volunteerism," said her mother Jill Becker. "Those opportunities taught Cara about giving back to others and they taught me so much about Cara."
"Cara Cookie Volunteers" can be purchased by visiting Amazon.com. One hundred percent of the profits from every book will be donated to the Karma for Cara Foundation, which allows us to donate an additional book to a school or library.
