Inspur Receives the Special Contribution Award from SPEC

JINAN, China, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the biggest annual global meeting of Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation closed a few days ago, the Board of Directors of SPEC granted the special contribution award to Inspur, recognizing the work of Inspur for promoting SPEC test development and SPEC localization in China. Experts from the Information Technology Industry Council, the United States Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and other organizations were specially invited to attend and make keynote speeches as to research into the energy efficiency of servers in the event, in addition to members of the Board of Directors of SPEC and heads and members of its four technical teams.

In the SPEC annual meeting 2016, Hu Leijun, Vice President of Inspur Group, made a keynote speech  in regard of information on the server market of China and popularization of standardized testing. Chairman of the Board of Directors of SPEC Walter Bays, on behalf of SPEC, spoke highly of the efforts of Inspur in promoting standardized testing and expanding the market of China and expressed that SPEC would carry out more extensive cooperation with Inspur in 2016.

SPEC is the global third-party non-profit standard evaluation organization with the largest testing scope, the greatest number of test results published and the most extensive user application in the world. It has SPEC Power, SPEC Sertenergy efficiency testing, SPEC Virt virtualization testing, SPEC jEnterprise, SPEC Cloud, SPECCPU, big data, cloud computing and many other internationally authoritative testing standards, which are widely used for major IT manufacturers and end users in the world.

Inspur is a voting member of the OSG (Open Scene Graph) (Open Computing) of SPEC. OSG is the core and biggest technical group of SPEC among the four technical groups. It formulates and implements ten testing benchmarks. Inspur has always been participating in formulation and development of testing standards and models of OSG with voting right to the final results.

Over a dozen years, Inspur has played an important role in improving the influence of SPEC in China. As early as 2004, Inspur achieved the best result of SPECjAppServer2002, becoming the first Chinese enterprise breaking the testing record of SPEC. Later, a growing number of Chinese enterprises participated in SPEC. By the end of 2014, the number of testing results published by Chinese enterprises on the official website of SPEC increased by a factor of 390.

In China, the influence of SPEC has extended from IT enterprises to industrial users. Banks, telecommunication operators and other key customers have begun to apply SPEC testing models to model selection of servers before centralized purchasing. Many small customers also use the results published by SPEC as the reference for purchase of servers. Meanwhile, some big internet operators continuously communicate with SPEC and plan to develop their own system performance evaluation benchmarks based on SPEC models.

Inspur has been promoting localization of SPEC testing standards in China and committing to extention of SPEC advanced testing models in China. According to Hu Leijun, Inspur has completed the testing and verification of SPEC CPUv6 model and submitted reports to OSG. Inspur has provided considerable technical support in other fields, such as Java performance and virtualization performance testing. In 2016, Inspur will play a role in development and upgrade of more testing models and start to cooperate with SPEC in cloud computing, big data, network storage and other large-scale application performance testing.

SPEC testing models are high simulation and integration of actual application of end-users. With rapid development of informatization of China, Chinese users play a more and more important role in the world. Meanwhile, application requirements of Chinese users represent the development trend of global informatization.
