IntelCav Presents Brazilian Case of EMV Migration in the 1st Edition of Cartes in USA

SAO PAULO, Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- IntelCav, one of the leading global payment card manufacturers and technology suppliers for the banking, authentication, identification, transportation and telecom industries, will be a key exhibitor at the first edition of CARTES North America.

The event will take place from March 5th to 7th, at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Traditionally held in Paris, France, Cartes is considered the world's largest event in the card and electronic payment industry.

According to ABECS, the Brazilian Association of Credit Cards and Services, Brazil ended the year 2011 with a volume of over 687 million cards in circulation including all types of payment cards offered and is one of the most advanced markets in the world in the usage of smart cards.

According to Castejon, the Brazilian experience may indicate a path for USA and other markets accelerate their migration process. "The adoption of the EMV technology increases security, widens the possibilities of new business opportunities and offers advantages to the payment industry as a whole", he said.

Seeking to have a strong participation in the EMV migration process in the United States to cards with a chip, IntelCav opened an office in Florida last year. For 2012, the company plans to concentrate its efforts in this business opportunity.

Since its foundation 11 years ago, IntelCav has manufactured over 1 billion cards. The company owns card factories in the cities of Getulio Vargas (RS) and Manaus (AM) with a production capacity of 200 million cards/year. It also has three Personalization Centers with the capacity to print over 60 million cards/year. Besides the manufacturing facilities, IntelCav has several commercial offices in the main capital cities of Brazil and Latin America. The company is also present in Africa and Eastern Europe. Currently, approximately 22% of its total production is aimed at the foreign markets.

Fernando Castejon will be a speaker during the first day of the much-anticipated event and will talk about the migration process of the Brazilian magnetic strip card base to EMV standards.

Another highlight is the company's line of eco-friendly cards that, in 2009, won the Eco Award offered by the American Chamber of Commerce in Brazil (Amcham) in partnership with the Valor Economico newspaper, in the "Product Sustainability" category. The winning project was a card made from Post-Consumption Recycled PET bottles. It was also a finalist at the Sesames Awards, at Cartes 2010.
