International Anti-Corruption NGO OCO Launches Investigation into the Governmental Structures in Malaysia Which Enable Crony Capitalism and Corruption

Following the concerns raised in Malaysia regarding the prevalence of crony capitalism and favoritism, OCO has announced its decision to launch an independent investigation into the matter. The investigation is aimed to map out these mechanisms and loopholes that fuel them, and offer structural and systemic solutions in order to rectify the political system's ailments. 

OCO stated today that the organization has launched an investigation regarding allegations of cronyism and nepotism in the Malaysian political system and its business sector.

Malaysia, a country that prides itself on a democratically elected government, was the center of several allegations of corruption. It seems that a longstanding tradition of relationships between politicians (including their inner circles) and members of the business sector has created an interlocking system, in which favoritism leads to wealth for both parties. This tradition allegedly leads to a situation in which no scrutiny is being given to proper procedure.

Multiple stories regarding this issue that broke in the media in the past as well as recently have led OCO to launch an in-depth investigation in order to shed as much light on this issue as possible. This is a serious matter that must be addressed and as such the investigation will be carried out by qualified researchers and academics. Once the investigation has been concluded, OCO will publish a report that will outline the main findings and offer recommendations regarding potential ways to rectify them and prevent the recurrence of such events in the future.
