International Dyslexia Association Announces Groundbreaking Parent Membership Initiative in Response to 40,000 Annual Inquiries

BALTIMORE, July 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) announces a pioneer initiative to support parents of dyslexic children. With one out of every ten people struggling with dyslexia, the IDA has taken the bold step of offering direct support to parents for the first time in its history.

A discounted membership of $45.00 will provide parents access to an online interactive community including a discussion forum, blog and more, a bi-monthly dyslexia newsletter, access to Perspectives (the IDA's quarterly publication focusing on dyslexia and other reading problems), discounted pricing on IDA publications, access to Annals of Dyslexia (a journal dedicated to the scientific study of dyslexia), discounted admission to the IDA's annual conference which includes top experts on dyslexia, an online referral service for treatment professionals, affiliation with a local branch of the IDA which parents can use for local support and resources, the opportunity for educational scholarships for their children, as well as travel and insurance discounts.

The shift to offer resources directly to parents comes as a result of an increased demand for support services for parents of dyslexic children. Each year the IDA answers 30,000-40,000 direct inquiries to their national office from individuals seeking more information on dyslexia. The IDA estimates that up to 20% of the population demonstrates signs of dyslexia and a recent study revealed that as many as 35% of entrepreneurs may be dyslexic.
