Introducing EverydayActors.com: the online, royalty-free resource for sourcing talent for video
NEW YORK, Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As of today, EverydayActors.com—a site that connects content producers with talent—has officially launched to the general public. Essentially, EverydayActors is an online database that showcases willing "everyday" people to creatives who need actors for their video content. The service is free to the company seeking relevant talent, and includes a free trial followed by a subscription model for the everyday people interested in pursuing gigs through the platform.

A few years back, founder/owner, Kyle Hosick, recognized that the web business was trending towards video content, through his clients in particular. Kyle also runs a Toronto-based web and video production agency, and was struggling to find authentic "everyday" people (ie: customers) to act in video, most commonly "how to" and "testimonial" videos for brand websites.
"We noticed that in most cases, we needed a regular 'everyday' person to play the part of a customer in these videos, and that sourcing talent was time-consuming, tedious and overly expensive," said Hosick, "This typically involved going through an acting or modeling agency, sifting through headshots, auditioning people, and ultimately, finding someone who would require a minimum number of paid hours and an exorbitant fee, of which the agency would take a percentage."
Having bought stock photos online for years when creating print or digital campaigns, this sparked Hosick's idea to create a similar database where videographers, ad agencies, web developers or brands themselves could search by a set of criteria, including geographic location, and be given a list of relevant, willing and able "everyday" actors to participate. As such, EverydayActors.com was born.
For the agency, this is a free tool that allows them to search the database, retrieve matches, negotiate direct and hire accordingly. EverydayActors.com does not take a cut in any deals made on the site, making this far less expensive and less time consuming than dealing with a third-party representative.
For the actor, this is a low-risk, low-effort way to get fun gigs and make a few extra bucks on the side, and for those with a true interest in acting, it could also be a way of building up a portfolio of work. However, Hosick stresses that this is not a site targeted at polished Hollywood actors with big screen aspirations, this is for believable 'everyday' types looking to make money.
"We want to become the 'agent' to all of the actors who don't need the services or want to pay the commissions of a traditional agent," continued Hosick, "It's a cost-savings for the people making the videos and it's exposure as well as money in the pocket for the people who want a gig or want to act. Effectively, we're cutting out the middle man and becoming a talent agent to the world."
The website is open to actors of all ages (including toddlers), and search criteria on the website includes: city, union or non-union, gender, age, ethnicity, style (such as geek chic, working class or punk), and special features (such as bald, tattoos or glasses).
The sole revenue model for EverydayActors.com is a $20 annual subscription on the actor side (which kicks in after a free 1-month trial); a structure they have put in place to ensure the seriousness and quality of the actors who participate.
