New Starbucks True North Blend™ Makes its Debut Perfectly Timed for Canada Day
TORONTO, June 27, 2013 /CNW/ - Thanks to coffee drinkers from coast to coast, Canada now has a Starbucks coffee blend to call its own, based on consumer submissions and popular vote. Beginning today, Starbucks® cafés across Canada will offer the newly-named Starbucks True North Blend™/ Starbucks Mélange Nordique™ Blonde Roast coffee - as a brewed option in-store and in exclusive 1lb whole bean packages.

To celebrate the success of Starbucks® Blonde Roast in Canada, this past January, coffee lovers across the country were invited to submit new and uniquely Canadian names for Starbucks Blonde® Veranda Blend®. After more than 60,000 contest submissions and nearly 25,000 votes, Canadians crowned the blend Starbucks True North Blend™ - the winning name and essay submission entered by Robert Jack, from Toronto.
"The name is subtly patriotic and reflective of where the hearts of Canadians are," Mr. Jack's essay reads. "Canadians know, deep in their hearts, that they have an affinity to and for the 'True North,' strong and free…wherever they are in the world. What sets us apart is a quiet confidence, pride of heritage, being comfortable with our surroundings, an approachable nature, and the ability to not take things too seriously (some might even say mellow)…unless it has to do with hockey, and even then we might politely apologize for it. Canada is a country, yes, but above all it is a community where neighbours share experiences, passions, and experiences…usually over a good cup of coffee."
Sporting a new name, Starbucks True North Blend™ Blonde Roast also has new packaging design. A collaboration between Starbucks Canada and Starbucks global studio designers in Seattle, the new Starbucks True North Blend™ packaging reflects our distinctly rich Canadian landscapes, from the western mountain peaks and the wheat fields of the Prairies, to the Boreal forests of central Canada and the seashore of the Maritimes.
Officially launching today just in time for Canada Day, Starbucks True North Blend™ will be available in brewed coffee every day and 1lb packages of whole bean coffee in stores and online at starbucksstore.ca. In addition, to celebrate Canada's 146th birthday, Starbucks stores will feature exclusive Canadian merchandise, including a collection of top Canadian musical performances on the new Coast to Coast CD and newly designed Canada mugs and Starbucks Canada gift cards.
