Irish Government Supports Second Annual IrelandWeek in Los Angeles
Multi-day Event Showcases the Wealth and Breadth of Talent from Irish Creators and Innovators
LOS ANGELES and DUBLIN, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) and additional members of the Irish government, including the Irish Ambassador to the United States and the Irish Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht welcome the successful return of IrelandWeek and IRELANDCON to Los Angeles. IrelandWeek (10/25 -11/3) is supported by the Irish Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the State Agency network. Through a myriad of events covering live music, theatre, visual art, film, TV, sports, tech, trade and animation, IrelandWeek's focus is to bring Ireland to the world, and the world back to Ireland.
Welcoming the return of IrelandWeek, Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar said, "Ireland and LA share a global outlook and a historic relationship, which today is infused with a new energy, inspired by a new generation of innovators, entrepreneurs and artists, working together in so many different areas. This week, Los Angeles will experience some of the best of Irish art and culture, including music, poetry and film from some of our finest contemporary artists and performers. In October, the Irish Government announced the extension of the Irish tax incentive for the film, television and animation industries. This extension further enhances Ireland's position as a prime filming location. In announcing the extension to the relief, the Government also announced an exciting new enhancement of additional tax relief of up to 5% for productions, which locate in Ireland's regions.
The Irish influence in Hollywood is undisputed, with Irish film professionals gracing the nomination lists annually. Just this year, Nora Twomey's animated feature, The Breadwinner, lead nominations for Irish talent at the 2018 Academy Awards alongside Saoirse Ronan, Consolata Boyle, Martin McDonagh and Daniel Day-Lewis.
