NEW YORK, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Irregular Labs, a Gen Z run studio and think tank, today announced the launch of Arts Not Parts, a creative call to action in support of and solidarity with trans and gender fluid youth.
With the simple goal of using creativity to combat contempt, Irregular Labs asked over 45 artists and organizations, as well as its creative community, to create original Arts Not Parts posters that celebrate difference and the basic right to pee freely.
Arts Not Parts invites the public to download a poster (or make their own!), hang it in a bathroom (home, school, the White House, Chick-fil-A or wherever!), share it on Instagram and challenge friends to do the same. Through this collective creativity, Arts Not Parts hopes to transform spaces that might feel dangerous to gender fluid and trans youth into positive, supportive and affirming environments.
Supporters include: musician Sia, activist Jacob Tobia, NYLON, musician Trevor Moran, Dazed Digital, photographer Cass Bird, model Hunter Schafer, musician JD Samson, Trans Youth Equality Foundation, photographer Cass Bird, DoSomething.org, Visionaire and model Adwoa Aboah's Gurls Talk.
Arts Not Parts started as a small idea in response to some not so small plans by governments and corporations to perpetuate hatred and discrimination. Rather than adding to the negativity with more shouts and complaints, Arts Not Parts is tackling the terribles one creative high five at a time.
Genderqueer advocate and writer Jacob Tobia sums it up best, "Art is one of the most profound tools we have in our arsenal to combat bigotry and intolerance in the world. I'm thrilled to contribute my words to this project and to help support what I view as a very important initiative!"
Arts Not Parts hopes to serve as a reminder that we all have a choice to collectively say nope, nuh-uh, no way! to bigotry, hatred and intolerance. Neither parent, principal nor president can take that away from us. So, it's time to choose.
