ISI's Collegiate Network Congratulates Alumnus Neil Gorsuch on His Supreme Court Nomination
Gorsuch cofounded an ISI Collegiate Network newspaper at Columbia University in the 1980s
WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Intercollegiate Studies Institute and its student journalism program, the Collegiate Network, congratulate Neil Gorsuch on his nomination to the United States Supreme Court.
As an undergraduate at Columbia University in 1986, Gorsuch cofounded the Collegiate Network–sponsored publication The Federalist Paper (later The Federalist, or simply The Fed). In addition to helping start the newspaper, he served as the leader of the student Editorial Board in those pivotal early years.
ISI president Charlie Copeland said this morning: "ISI is proud that alumnus Neil Gorsuch has been nominated to serve on the nation's highest court. Many of the early reports on Judge Gorsuch have noted his talent for writing clear, even entertaining opinions. His experience running and writing for a Collegiate Network–sponsored student newspaper certainly would have honed his writing talents. The Collegiate Network journalism program emphasizes the importance of both in-depth reporting and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. Those points of emphasis help explain why so many Collegiate Network alumni have gone on to positions of prominence."
Alumni of the Collegiate Network, which was founded in 1979, include such prominent journalists as ABC News Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl, New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, Washington Post national reporter Elise Viebeck, Wall Street Journal Pulitzer Prize winner Joseph Rago, Commentary editor John Podhoretz, LifeZette founder and radio talk show host Laura Ingraham, National Review editor Rich Lowry, Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen, and author and New Criterion columnist Emily Esfahani Smith, to name only a few.
Like Judge Gorsuch, many other Collegiate Network editors have made their mark outside of journalism. Alumni include PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel, Yammer founder David O. Sacks, QVC president Michael George, and NCIS: Los Angeles executive producer Dave Kalstein.
