Island Doctors lends a helping hand to build community resources and support healthy lifestyles in Jacksonville community
Local physician office continues commitment to community diabetes awareness, while bridging the gap between youth and seniors.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Island Doctors will send volunteers from its offices across NE Florida to help build a playground in Jacksonville, FL, Oakland Terrace community, Saturday, October 19, 2013. The playground is a project coordinated by KaBOOM! which is a national nonprofit that has built over 2,000 playgrounds across the United States.
"We are truly committed to being involved and increasing the quality of life to the communities we serve. This is a continuation of our "bridging the gap" initiative and diabetes campaign launched in Jacksonville in mid-July," said Marcus Williams, Community Liaison, Island Doctors. "We realize that it's a lot of things that each generation can learn from each other. Things passed down are: values, trades, traditions, and wisdom. Youth bring to the table: energy, innovation, and hope for a better future. At Island Doctors we believe that it is never too late to improve health and start healthy habits. We are standing with the community and hope that the new Oakland Terrace playground will generate activity and dialogue that empower generations to seek healthy lifestyles," said Roy Hinman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Island Doctors.
The new 3,000-square-foot playground will feature a fitness station and walking paths for adults and seniors. Additional features for kids will include traditional swings, slides, and a family gathering area. The project is funded by Humana and volunteers get a complimentary t-shirt, water bottle, breakfast, lunch, and snacks:
