Isolux Corsán is Working With ADIF on the R&D to Place Spanish High-Speed Train Transport on the Cutting Edge Of Technology World-Wide

They are jointly involved in research and staff training projects and in creating public-private partnerships for the presentation of R&D projects.

The main lines of research will focus on energy recovery systems and distributed control systems for electricity substations.

The Group has longstanding experience in developing railway projects through its engineering division. It is now reinforcing its position in this area.

Isolux Corsán has signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Spanish rail infrastructure company, ADIF (Administración de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias) to work together on research, technology development and innovation at ADIF's rail technology institute in Malaga.

The aim is to cooperate in setting up R&D projects that will help make Spanish companies working in the railway sector more competitive, there by positioning Spanish railway transport on the cutting edge of European and international technology.

Isolux Corsán will roll out the agreement through its engineering department, which has longstanding experience in running engineering, procurement and construction projects (EPC) in the railway sector, and will there by reinforce its position on the domestic and international market.

Main lines of work

The cooperation will include carrying out research projects and programmes, reciprocal advice, training of research and technical staff and the creation of public-private partnerships to present R&D projects for grants and to bid jointly for domestic and international tenders.

A joint committee will be in charge of supervising progress in each area of work and indentifying new projects. The mainlines of research will focus on systems for energy recovery, distributed control systems for electricity substations, multi-voltage electricity substations for continuous and alternate current feed and specific software for applications integrated with the DaVinci platform.

The research work will be done in the facilities of the ADIF railway technology institute in Malaga. This already has two specialist laboratories: one in RBC-train communications and developing data engineering for ERTMS and another specialising in smart transport systems and evolving the DaVinci advanced system for railway traffic. It will also house the supplementary railtrack ring that will be built for testing. This will be on the forefront of research and development into high-speed technologies in the next few years.
