ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. and PERTH, Western Australia, April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ITC Global, an international provider of satellite communications services to the mining, energy and maritime industries, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the satellite operations of Broadpoint LLC, an established provider of communications services to the oil and gas sector in the Gulf of Mexico. Broadpoint will retain its core cellular telecommunications business, which operates the only ubiquitous cellular voice and data network in the Gulf of Mexico.
Broadpoint's satellite communications business provides customers with highly reliable managed communication services including broadband IP networking, MPLS, voice over IP, real-time video and Internet access delivered primarily to oil and gas exploration and production customers principally in the Gulf of Mexico. Its managed satellite communications solutions include stabilized, portable and fixed satellite communications services supported by its teleport and network operations center located in Harahan, Louisiana.
The acquisition brings together complementary and valuable capabilities, providing immediate benefits to both organizations. Broadpoint customers will be able to access ITC Global's worldwide coverage footprint and support services, which is critical as oil and gas exploration increasingly takes place in emerging markets such as West Africa and the North West Shelf of Western Australia.
"Broadpoint is a respected service provider that has built a top-tier market presence and a track record of responsive support for demanding customer requirements," said Joseph Spytek, vice president of business development for ITC Global. "The acquisition supports ITC's strategic goal of growing its already strong presence in the global resource segment in addition to providing a strong beachhead into the Gulf of Mexico's oil and gas market for our customer base. Our vision is to fully integrate the Broadpoint operations into ITC Global and firmly establish ITC as one of a very short list of companies able to provide fully managed networks on a truly global scale."
Bryan Olivier, chief operating officer of Broadpoint, said, "ITC Global has an internationally recognized reputation as a premier provider of enterprise grade remote area communications solutions to the mining, oil and gas, and maritime sectors. The combination of Broadpoint's satellite business and ITC Global will provide our satellite customers with an expanded offering to address their needs for mission-critical communications services. Furthermore, the sale of the satellite unit will allow Broadpoint to focus on our core cellular telecommunications business, bringing reliable high quality voice and data services to our customer base and roaming partners throughout the Gulf of Mexico."
