JBSA Seeks Solutions and Collaborators to Meet Defined Energy Requirements
SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), one of the largest energy-using installations in the Department of Defense, recently defined a set of requirements for improving its energy supply and use-efficiency. The Sustainable Energy Innovation Center (SEIC), under a Memorandum of Understanding, is tasked with looking outside of JBSA to find solutions and collaborators for helping to meet these requirements.
JBSA's energy-related needs fall into six broad categories: 1). Alternative Energy Sources, 2). Building Metering & Control, 3). Energy Conservation & Efficiency, 4). Energy, Condition, and Optimization Audits, 5). Renewable Energy Generation, and 6). Water Conservation and Efficiency. Details about the energy requirements and a mechanism for connecting with SEIC are available at www.jbsa-seic.org.
JBSA, a U. S. Air Force-led organization, is comprised of Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston. It encompasses 40,000 acres and supports 73,000 on-base workers, more personnel than any other installation in the Department of Defense. It is the largest energy user in San Antonio and is the largest customer for CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned utility in the Nation.
SEIC is a collaborative initiative of JBSA and the Defense Transformation Institute (DTI). Day-to-day operations are managed by DTI in close collaboration with JBSA. SEIC is positioned to act as an intermediary between JBSA and providers of energy technologies and solutions.
The Defense Transformation Institute (DTI) was formed in July 2004 as a 501(c) 3 organization by the Texas Research and Technology Foundation (TRTF), in coordination with City of San Antonio's Economic Development Department. The DTI is designed to serve as a proactive intermediary with active military installations and the community.
