Jeremy Franklin Joins Mitsubishi Motors

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeremy Franklin, a successful business serving Kansas City motorists since 2001, has been selected to be a Mitsubishi Motors dealership. The company will be known as Jeremy Franklin Mitsubishi of Kansas City.

Franklin said the dealership's current operations – Meineke Car Care maintenance services, quality preowned vehicles and Capital Finance vehicle finance company – will remain in force and will be enhanced by the addition of Mitsubishi warranty maintenance services.

To facilitate the move, Jeremy Franklin has acquired the new-vehicle inventory and other Mitsubishi-related assets of Lee's Summit Mitsubishi, which closed operations this month. Included are new Outlander, Outlander Sport, Mirage and Lancer models available for immediate sale.

Hector Espinosa, general manager and partner of Jeremy Franklin Mitsubishi, said the 33-employee business expects to add seven employees within the next month, including some former Lee's Summit Mitsubishi employees. More employee growth is expected later, Espinosa said.

Mitsubishi Motors, which assembles vehicles at plants in Normal, Ill., and around the world, saw a nearly 8 percent increase in U.S. sales in 2013 vs. 2012 and expects to grow about 25 percent in 2014 on the strength of an aggressive business plan announced last year.

The acquisition comes at defining moment for both Mitsubishi and Jeremy Franklin.

Mitsubishi plans to add new models soon, including the Outlander plug-in hybrid that recently won the 2014 "technology of the year" honor from the Automotive Researchers' & Journalists' Conference. The automaker also is bringing back the Montero and Montero Sport models and is developing a midsized sedan in partnership with Renault.
