JMR Graphics Comments on An Article Discussing The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity's Plan to Use Solar Energy Over Traditional Electricity

According to a May 4th article from Daily News Egypt titled "Electricity ministry evaluates using solar energy to power outdoor ads," the Ministry of Electricity in Egypt is planning to switch to solar power to run the lights on all outdoor advertising banners. They will begin changing over banners in Cairo, which makes up 4% of the advertising banners in Egypt. The Ministry of Environment announced that Italy is providing Egypt with an EGP 3.5m grant for the creation of solar powered electrical units. The Ministry of Electricity is also working to place solar energy stations at the top of each ministerial building.

The Ministry of Petroleum stated that it has been depending on renewable energy since 2007. Former electricity minister Ahmed Imam says, "Egypt aims to produce 20% of its energy using new and renewable sources by 2020." The government plans to support this issue by importing additional quantities of natural gas. This will help improve the efficiency of transferring fuel and diesel and add more energy stations across the country. The state's current budget for electricity subsidies is EGP 23bn.
