John E. Phillips Named Methodist Mansfield Medical Center President
MANSFIELD, Texas, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Methodist Health System has named John Phillips, FACHE, president of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Phillips, who currently serves as regional chief operating officer of CHRISTUS, St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, will join the Methodist team on August 22, 2011.

Phillips is a seasoned health care executive who began his career at Hendrick Health System in Abilene nearly 15 years ago. Since 2008, Phillips has worked for CHRISTUS Health, at St. Michael Health System where he oversaw operations of a 312-bed non-profit tertiary, acute care hospital, a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, a 30-bed LTACH, home care, and an employed physician group.
Among his team's many accomplishments include leading CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in 2011 to Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® for large community hospitals, and in 2010 Modern Healthcare #1 Best Place to Work in the Nation and #6 Best Company in Texas for all industries. He also led the development of new service lines including a neonatal intensive care unit, joint replacement center of excellence, spine center of excellence and hip fracture center of excellence and led negotiations of physician co-management agreements.
Prior to his role with St. Michael, he served as chief operating officer for Davis Regional Medical Center in N.C., and administrator of Eastland Memorial Hospital in Eastland TX. He has served in various roles as both a chief operating officer and hospital president, which have included both for-profit and not-for-profit health care systems.
Phillips earned a master of business administration degree from Hardin-Simmons University and a master of health care administration degree from Trinity University.

Phillips is active in the community and currently serves on the Texas Hospital Association (THA) Committee on Leadership Development, was chairman of the American Heart Association Heart Ball in Texarkana, and served on the Junior League of Texarkana Advisory Board. He also served as adjunct faculty at Texas A&M University in Texarkana's Texas College of Business.
