Sugarbaker beat Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods" and Danielle Fishel of Style Network's "The Dish" to win her second Tasty Award for best comedy. Winners were chosen by fan votes. The Tasty Awards honor the best in food and fashion programming in film, on television and online. Hosted by comedian Zane Lamprey, the awards ceremony took place at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater on January 13th.
A popular online cooking host and comedian, Sugarbaker demonstrates budget-friendly, easy to make comfort foods that are loved not just by the trailer park crowd, but by families and urban singles alike. Using ingredients most people keep in their kitchen, Sugarbaker shows fans how to make inventive recipes for entrees, side dishes and desserts with secret ingredients like fudge using pinto beans, cookies with popcorn, and chocolate brownies with beets.
With her trademark blonde beehive and colorful muumuu, Sugarbaker is no newcomer to comedy, cooking or the internet. For more than 17 years, she's been performing and teaching stand up comedy and home cooking techniques in the Washington, DC area and on her own popular YouTube channel. Sugarbaker also spreads her "White Trash with Class" style with her line of offbeat T-shirts and gifts from Cafe Press. She's been featured on Good Morning America, Fox News, MSNBC and in the Washington Post.
Even deeper than her commitment to sharing the joys of the trailer park lifestyle is her appreciation for her fans worldwide. Sugarbaker faithfully responds to their comments on her YouTube channel, interacts frequently on Facebook and Twitter and recently set up a hotline that fans can call to leave a message or talk with her live. It's all Sugarbaker's way of staying close to the people who inspire her.
"My fans are like my neighbors," she said. "I want to know what's going on in their lives. It's one big neighborhood."
