Jopari Has Begun Testing the '5010' Standard With Its Provider and Payer Clients for Use in P&C Industry

CONCORD, Calif., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Jopari Solutions, a principal supplier of integrated medical transaction EDI services to the Property and Casualty Industry, has already begun early adoption testing of the new "5010" electronic billing standards with a number of its provider and payer clients. Jopari is also as a participant in the WEDI SNIP ASC X12 005010 testing workgroup.  

The WEDI SNIP 5010 testing workgroup was convened as a healthcare industry wide collaboration of group health clearinghouses and national payer organizations to facilitate compliance readiness for stakeholders, in advance of new HIPAA mandated electronic billing standards.  The new national standards take effect January 1, 2012.

Jopari's participation in the workgroup as the property and casualty clearinghouse representative allows for monitoring recommended code changes, deletions, and/or modifications that could impact the P&C industry.  Early Adoption testing will distinguish any issues requiring resolution, which will be addressed in conjunction with efforts by the International Association of Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC), working with WEDI and X12 standards organizations, to align workers' compensation and the property and casualty industry generally with the 5010 standards.

Many health insurers, as covered entities under HIPAA, have already undertaken making changes to information and billing systems, in anticipation of version 5010 preparedness testing. Because the property and casualty industry will be impacted, the need to identify how is an immediate concern.  Included is the necessity of establishing version 5010 testing scenarios, which will require robust test transactions databases, and coordination with trading partners.  

Property and casualty payers are not covered entities under HIPAA, a special status that may be suppressing a sense of urgency regarding the group health industry's intensive efforts surrounding Accredited Standards ASC X12 005010, according to Jopari.  The company indicated that because of expanding medical EDI transaction exchanges between workers' compensation and auto medical payers and health care providers, preparing for the change is a clear and present priority. This was recently echoed in comments by the Texas Division of Workers Compensation, the first jurisdiction to mandate eBilling in 2008, which advised their stakeholders to be prepared for the new standards.

Jopari is expanding its testing program as their providers and payers are ready.  Transaction types being tested include inbound and outbound 837D, 837P, 837I, 835, in addition to types 270,271,276 and 277.  Non-mandated 5010 transaction types 277CA, 999 and 824 are also being tested.
