RALEIGH, N.C., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --  JouleBug is a free app that makes sustainability simple and fun for everyone.  JouleBug has hundreds of unique achievements to discover, learn, earn and share.  Every time someone Buzzes a sustainable action, they're helping the planet and their wallet.

JouleBug organizes sustainability tips into Pins that you can earn in the app when you do simple actions in real-life, such as walking instead of driving, or remembering a reusable coffee mug instead of a paper cup. The new JouleBug introduces a beautiful new UI with an emphasis on images created by users to help inspire others to share sustainable stories of their own. JouleBug is the sustainable network to follow how your friends and neighbors are helping you make your community a better place.

JouleBug's Pins are bite-sized actions, but the app's Leaderboard and analytics framework show the real power of community. Each Pin records the impact that the action has on the environment and your wallet, which correlates to Points you earn in the app. Neighbors can compete to see who can save the most water or track the impact of using a programmable thermostat. The easy-to-understand stats provide evidence of how small actions add up to something big.

The JouleBug framework is powering apps used by cities across the country to augment their own sustainable initiatives, too. Cities as large as Houston (Green Houston) and hip as Austin (Rethink/) are inspiring their citizens to go green with their own custom apps.
