Juan Whirred, the Cryptic Puzzle App, Now Available on the Apple App Store

One hundred years after the invention of the cryptic crossword, a 21st Century alternative - an app for lovers of cryptic word puzzles and eccentric British humour. Free, available on all iPads and iPhones.

App available from 11 November. Juan Whirred offers a 'one word' cryptic challenge, using videos to describe the word in a combination of images, sounds and text. Forty years in development by the game's creator, briefly on Granada TV with a different name and format in the 90s, and now finding its place on iPhones and iPads. Fans of cryptic crosswords, Radio 4 panel shows, and surreal humour will all find something to keep them entertained, challenged and intrigued.

Juan Whirred comes with a selection of 21 puzzles and 30 Playpoints to start with. A new 'Today's Play' puzzle is added every day. Players can buy clues with Playpoints if they get stuck, with the last clue being a choice of three possible solutions, or can ask for help on Facebook or via Twitter from their friends.

Every 'Whirred' solved earns the chance to enter to win a random prize, from t-shirts to pens, with new prizes added weekly on the web site. Playpoints cost from 1p each.
