Kansas City Chiefs Fans Are the Loudest, But Are They the Smartest? SuperFansCompete.com Challenges All NFL Fans to Prove Themselves in a Weekly Online FootballRivia™ Competition
REDMOND, Ore., Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With seconds remaining in the first quarter of last Monday's matchup between Kansas City and the visiting New England Patriots, Chiefs fans set a Guinness World Record that may – or may not – hold up for a long time. KC now officially holds the title of "World's Loudest Fans." SuperFansCompete.com, a new trivia-based, online fan competition, congratulates the Chiefs' faithful, while encouraging all NFL fans to test their mettle in weekly FootballRivia™ matchups.
Ownership of bragging rights for World's Loudest Fans has been a back-and-forth battle for two straight NFL seasons. Seahawks fans, collectively known as the "12th Man," set the record more than a year ago with a noise measurement of 136.6 decibels. A month later, KC took the top spot with an impressive 137.5 decibels. Not to be outdone, Seattle stormed back on December 2 during a late-season matchup with the 49ers; the 137.6-decibel reading was just enough to grab the title again. That mark stood until the Monday Night Football broadcast on September 29, when Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City registered an ear-shattering 142.2 decibels.
According to the folks at Guinness, Chiefs fans' recent achievement was the first time an outdoor stadium had passed the 140-decibel threshold, a high bar for any other fan base to surpass. SuperFansCompete.com asks fans of every NFL team to showcase their smarts and loyalty in an intriguing new way. FootballRivia™ replicates the fast and unpredictable action of football and challenges players with tough, multiple choice trivia questions.
In FootballRivia™, football knowledge, both modern and historical, is the measuring stick by which fan loyalty is proven. Players, or "TeamFans," make noise on the virtual field by answering questions correctly, which moves the ball downfield. A 15-second play clock means TeamFans have to make decisions quickly or be penalized. Likewise, answering questions incorrectly can mean losing yards or even turning the ball over. Different play types correspond to various difficulty levels; big-yardage plays will be much tougher.
The competition on SuperFansCompete.com mirrors the NFL schedule, much like fantasy football. But unlike fantasy football, players participate more directly in the outcome. Each week, TeamFan bases of one team are pitted against those of another team. Players can test themselves in FootballRivia™ and accumulate points as many times as they like throughout he week. At the end of the week, the TeamFan base with the higher per-player scoring average gets credit for the win.
After the NFL season, TeamFan bases that performed best will qualify for the Playoffs, and the crowning of the SuperFans Champion. In addition to the trivia matchups, players can mingle and chat in both team-specific locker rooms and an open forum.
As the NFL regular season moves into its second act, the developers and football fans behind SuperFansCompete.com has plans to roll out some fun new features, including head-to-head FootballRivia™.
