"Gun control isn't designed to control guns; it's designed to control people," states filmmaker Jesse Winton. A central lesson Jesse Winton took away from the year he spent traveling the world and exploring the roots of the anti-gun movement. In his deep-dive into the organized political effort to restrict or ban the use of guns by American citizens, Winton asserts that there is something motivating this effort that goes beyond a sincere desire to limit gun violence. From his point of view, the documentary takes a look at Winton's beliefs on how the restriction of liberty and freedom have been central to the American political experiment for over two centuries.
"The differing viewpoints surrounding the Second Amendment continue to be a passionate topic for nearly all Americans," noted KAOS Executives Dan Diamond and Shelly Maxwell. "We hope Jesse Winton's film and the powerful debate that follows creates opportunities to come together in the complex and on-going discussions of rights vs. control."
To explore the depths of the anti-gun movement, Winton interviewed a number of people with experience in various facets of the public-policy debates over guns, including former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, noted outdoorsman Hank Parker, author and commentator Katie Pavlich, and former NRA president Dave Keene.
The film features Winton as he explores the positions held by the Founding Fathers in drafting the Constitution and what led them to establish the right to keep and bear arms in the 2nd Amendment. In his documentary, Winton's view is "Gun rights aren't just about the right to hunt or to protect oneself from other citizens; they exist as one of the most important checks and balances the people have on their government." His opinion maintains that "the modern effort to control or ban civilian gun ownership is central to an agenda designed to take away Americans' freedoms."
