Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis to Be Honored at Values Voter Summit

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council (FRC) announced today that Kim Davis, the Kentucky County Clerk who was jailed after declining to issue same-sex marriage licenses, will be honored with the "Cost of Discipleship Award" at the Values Voter Summit on Friday evening, September 25.

Last week, FRC President Tony Perkins met with Davis just prior to her release from jail and invited her and her attorney, Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver, to attend the 10th annual Summit, which will be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.

Mariam Ibraheem, the Sudanese Christian woman who was sentenced to death for apostasy and spent months in a notoriously rank Sudanese prison with her toddler son and newborn daughter, was the recipient of last year's inaugural "Cost of Discipleship Award."

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments in announcing the plans to honor Kim Davis:

After meeting with her last week, I can tell you that Kim Davis wasn't looking for this fight, but she is not running from it either. What militant secularists are almost certainly afraid of is what is coming to pass: courage is breeding courage. When other people might have cowered in fear, Kim took a stand. And today, millions of Americans stand with her and for the religious freedom upon which our nation was founded.

"Far from the media's portrayal, Kim isn't trying to impose her views on anyone, she is simply asking that her orthodox religious views be accommodated.
