Kevin Seawright Ahead in Notre Dame's Executive Leadership Program
Newark Executive Seawright Earns Certificate of Achievement in Nonprofit-Focused Program
NEWARK, N.J., June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kevin Seawright, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation (Newark CEDC), has successfully completed the first installment of the University of Notre Dame – Mendoza College of Business's newest Executive Leadership Program, the Nonprofit Fund Development Program. The completion of the program is just the latest step in Seawright's path of continuing education and development in his new role with the Newark CEDC.
"Great leadership is lifting an organizations visions to high sights, raising performance to a higher standard, and building personalities beyond its normal limitations," says Seawright. "This is what I encountered in this program and will continue to take what I learned to serve non-profits & communities."
The Nonprofit Fund Development Program was established to help nonprofit leaders keep up with the competitive landscape of today's nonprofit sector. The first course, "Principles of Leading Transformational Nonprofits," is structured around the idea that unless a nonprofit is producing results, it cannot have a social impact. It teaches students to go beyond its day-to-day activity in order to yield significant change in line with their nonprofit's mission.
Students learn the history of America's nonprofit sector and how it has influenced society. They find out the principles of transformational leadership and how to engage nonprofit members to create a culture that embraces and encourages philanthropy. Additionally, they learn why it is essential to properly market their nonprofit and how to do it effectively. They are taught the growing importance of program and organizational evaluation and how proper data evaluation can be turned around to satisfy funders by showing them the results of their investments. Finally, students exercise their knowledge in nonprofit law, budgeting, finance reports, and statements.
Kevin Seawright completed Phase One of the program with a special Certificate of Achievement awarded to those who excelled in the course. For over 13 years, Seawright has been a leader in both the private and public sectors with his expertise rooted in financial management for local government agencies. His latest position with the Newark CEDC is the culmination of his years of hard work and achievement that have continuously benefitted communities up and down the East Coast. As Seawright looks ahead to the final two phases of the leadership program, he also maintains his position as Executive VP and CFO while staying active in his various social and philanthropic efforts.
