Kids Gifts: 9 in 10 Parents to Spend Same or More Than Last Year

New data from a Holiday Gift Buying study reports 70% of parents buy 3 or more gifts for their kids, 47% buy 3 or more gifts for their spouse or partner and 38% buy 1 or more gifts for pets.

BELOIT, Wis., Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --, where millions of deal hunters go to stack coupons with cash back, announced results of its 2015 Holiday Gift Buying Survey (*TNS). The study reports that 90% of parents plan to spend the same or more buying gifts for their children this year, with 70% of parents buying 3 or more gifts for each child and another 28% buying 1-3 gifts, leaving just 2% saying they do not buy gifts for their kids. What items do parents think kids want most this year?

When asked which tech items their kids want most, parents said 28% want an Android tablet vs. 23% wanting iPads, while 21% want iPhones vs.16% wanting Samsung smartphones, and only 7% thought their kids want the new Apple Watch. As for non-traditional gifts kids want most, parents think:

  • 41% want "quality time with their family"
  • 38% want to go to Disney World/Land
  • 20% want a puppy
  • 19% want to go to the new Star Wars movie
  • 9% want a new brother or sister

Nearly half of Americans (47%) buy more than one holiday gift for their spouse/partner with another 14% buying just one gift for spouse/partner, while 38% buy at least one holiday gift for their pets. What items do adults want most this year?

  • 25% want Clothing, Shoes and Jewelry
  • 22% want a Vacation
  • 18% want a Laptop or Computer

  • 33% like Walmart
  • 24% like Target
  • 19% like Best Buy

  • 12% like Macy's

  • 8% like Sears

When asked what the most important factors are when buying holiday gifts from online stores?

  • 76% said Free Shipping
  • 71% said Getting the Best Deals
  • 49% said Return Policy
  • 33% said Price Matching
  • 32% said Customer Service
  • 22% said Rewards
  • 4% said Good Mobile Apps
