SEATTLE, Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The casual knit tops with mysterious access holes that dominate the breastfeeding apparel market today do not evoke images of accomplished, influential women. Diane Lansinger, Founder and CEO of the apparel company Kinwolfe, wants to change that. The Kinwolfe collection, launching on Kickstarter this November 18th, provides confident, contemporary breastfeeding clothing for women who sit as comfortably in a meeting room as they do in a playroom.
Noticeably unlike what's currently on the market, Kinwolfe's first collection is made from 100% silk. "Fabric choice was important in conveying our brand," says Lansinger. "I chose silk because it's one of the most durable, natural fibers. Our pieces drape beautifully against the body in a comfortable way."
Quality construction and thoughtful design run throughout the collection in details like draped armholes and bound inside seams. All of Kinwolfe's pieces offered on Kickstarter have lightweight, invisible zippers hidden in front. These zippers are extra-long, designed to make it easy to nurse or pump.
Another highlight of Kinwolfe's design DNA: sizing based on real breastfeeding women. "One thing a lot of women struggle with after they have a baby is fit," says Lansinger. "We went through fifteen fit adjustments to get it right. Our pieces are designed for a new mom's changing shape. You can wear them right after delivery, and they'll look great at your desk too."
Kinwolfe eschews the concept of breastfeeding-only clothing; Lansinger designed her collection to be investment pieces a woman would want to wear even when she's done breastfeeding. Her design references pull from essential styles, so the collection feels both iconic and contemporary.
What inspired the line? "I'm a mom of two young kids," says Lansinger. "When I had my first child and started breastfeeding, I was shocked at the difference between what already hung in my closet and what was out there for breastfeeding. And I did a lot of nursing on the go: at childcare drop-off and pick-up, out to dinner, in the backseat of my car...So I needed breastfeeding clothing I could wear anywhere."
Why launch via Kickstarter? "Our crowdfunding campaign is to raise capital for production and to launch our own e-commerce website," says Lansinger, "but Kickstarter is also a fantastic platform for brand storytelling and community-building. New moms are a powerful community, and we hope our beautiful clothing will inspire them to help get the word out about Kinwolfe."
