Knome Announces KnomeDISCOVERY Research Awards Program
Company will award its exome sequencing and interpretation services to three biomedical research groups
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Knome today announced the launch of its KnomeDISCOVERY Research Awards Program. Given annually, the awards will fund innovative research projects that help reveal the genetic underpinnings of diseases and other important human traits. To inaugurate the program, Knome will award its exome sequencing and interpretation services to three winning research groups, each of which will study a pair of human exomes in order to answer a compelling biological question.
Founded by Harvard geneticist George Church and led by internationally recognized scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians, Knome provides cutting-edge genome sequencing and interpretation services for biomedical researchers and families seeking to understand the causes of human disease.
"Genome sequence analysis is revolutionizing biomedical research. My hope is that these awards will ignite researchers' imaginations," said George Church, Ph.D., Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Advisor of Knome. "Many experts in human disease stand to gain remarkable insights from exome sequencing, but could use guidance in interpreting the vast amount of data involved. Knome's sequence interpretation services can help such scientists play driving roles in the genomic revolution."
The company invites researchers to submit proposals before June 15, 2010; winners will be announced on July 30, 2010. A panel of scientific advisors, led by George Church, will judge proposals on scientific merit, feasibility, and funding need. Please see www.knome.com/awards for more information.
