"Gas exploration is expanding to more and more remote locations, which means companies are challenged to identify innovative frac fluid designs and treatment procedures that allow for reuse of frac water flowback and production brines effectively," said David Grottenthaler, general manager of Kroff, Inc., and co-presenter for the course on behalf of Kroff Well Services, Inc., a division of Kroff. "With its sophisticated laboratory equipment, advanced software designs, and a team of highly experienced consultants, Kroff Well Services has secured a position at the forefront of engineering frac fluid designs and flowback treatment technologies that are environmentally responsible and affordable. At a time when drilling in the Marcellus Shale is accelerating at a rapid pace, Kroff is positioned to help oil and gas companies ensure that they are meeting environmental regulations in terms of water use and reuse."
Grottenthaler will join co-instructors from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other environmental service organizations. Grottenthaler has three decades of experience with water treatment and now focuses his efforts on frac fluid designs and water remediation for reuse in the oil and gas industry. His knowledge of fluid design formulation and water treatment quality for safe and effective reuse of frac water provides a dual perspective from both sides of critical water issues. His presentation will focus on treating flowback, water treatment goals, supporting documentation for safe and effective water reuse, and frac fluid design considerations.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers Eastern Regional Meeting will provide a comprehensive technical program, Marcellus Shale development short courses, and a large exhibition of technical products and services. The exhibit hall at the new MEC Waterfront Place will be active throughout the meeting with more than 130 exhibitors.
