What: |
As one of only five grant recipients in the country, L.A. County was awarded a $300K planning grant funded 100% by the Department of Labor. The goal of the planning grant is to design a comprehensive blueprint to assist youth offenders in re-entry to the community and workforce. |
|
Why: |
L.A. County is home to over a quarter of all California residents and has one of the most diverse populations in the world - - contributing factors for leading the State and nation in many justice system statistics. Annually, nearly 25,000 youth are detained in the County's juvenile hall facilities (nearly three times as many as other CA counties). For every 100,000 youth, 310 are incarcerated in County camps or State Division of Juvenile Justice facilities. Strategies aimed at suppressing the increase of criminal activities among youth are critical in restoring L.A. County's economic vitality. |
