Lancope Launches StealthLabs Intelligence Center (SLIC) to Share Advanced Threat Research
New initiative to keep customers and the public informed of top threats facing government and enterprise networks
ATLANTA, Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lancope, Inc., a leader in flow-based security and network performance monitoring, has launched the StealthLabs Intelligence Center (SLIC) to share global threat research with customers and the public. Lancope's newly formed research group, StealthLabs, conducts advanced, in-house security research and taps into a broad community of third-party experts and partners to aggregate emerging threat information from around the world. This intelligence is shared via SLIC through a public portal, and is also leveraged internally to enhance Lancope's StealthWatch® System.
"Protecting computer networks is more challenging today than ever before," said Tom Cross, director of security research at Lancope. "Many of the advanced threats that have been discovered in recent months, such as Flame and Shamoon, represent the sort of attack activity that was reserved for science fiction novels only a few years ago. Lancope realizes that, in order to best protect our customers in this volatile environment, we must keep abreast of the latest developments in malicious software and share our research amongst the security community and with the public at large."
Today's threat landscape, coupled with evolving trends like user mobility and virtualization, present challenges for conventional security solutions such as antivirus, firewalls and IDS/IPS. "Although consistent execution of current best practices can protect an enterprise against publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and malware, it is insufficient to address the advanced, targeted attacks that a broad cross-section of organizations are now facing," added Cross. "New thinking and new strategies are needed."
With Lancope, customers benefit from the combination of cutting-edge research and advanced network behavioral analysis. The mission of StealthLabs is to protect Lancope customers by building innovative, robust capabilities into StealthWatch that can detect, analyze and remediate advanced security threats. StealthLabs reproduces and studies real-world attack activity in its laboratories in Atlanta, GA to develop and refine the behavioral anomaly detection algorithms that are at the core of StealthWatch's security capabilities.
Lancope's StealthWatch System leverages NetFlow, IPFIX and other flow data from existing network infrastructure to create a cost-effective, always-on sensor grid for detecting today's top threats. StealthWatch delivers unparalleled internal visibility and security context for combating a broad range of security issues – including insider attacks and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) – without relying on signature updates. StealthLabs' advanced knowledge of botnets and other sophisticated attacks on the Internet enhances Lancope's robust threat detection and incident response capabilities, preventing cyber-attacks from taking over corporate and government networks.
Members of the StealthLabs research team have decades of combined experience at the forefront of computer security. Lancope also maintains a vast network of partnerships with third-party organizations – including Cisco, HP, VMware, Team Cymru and the Georgia Institute of Technology, to name a few – in order to remain on the cutting edge of worldwide developments in networking and security.
