Landmark Naming-Rights Deal Set To Expire At Midnight As Alaska State Capital Changes Name Back From Uno To Juneau

UNO, Ala., April 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The city and borough of UNO, Alaska and Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) announced today that UNO – the capital city of Alaska – will change its name back to Juneau effective 12 a.m. PT April 2, 2016.  This news follows a landmark deal that resulted in the first-ever state capital naming-rights agreement.  To celebrate the momentous occasion, UNO made a monetary contribution to the Juneau Community Foundation Mayor Fisk Memorial Fund that will benefit local youth.  The check presentation ceremony took place today at 11 a.m. local time at UNO City Hall.

"This partnership was a great way to share the natural Alaskan wonders we enjoy every day," said Kimberly Kiefer, UNO City Manager. "We're thankful to UNO for coming to us with this clever approach to highlight our city nationally.  The generous donation to the Mayor Fisk Memorial Fund will go a long way in supporting the youth in our community."

The agreement also served to showcase the new, more "wild" UNO featuring customizable Wild cards in "Wild 4 UNO" decks, offering limitless house-rule possibilities.  UNO, Alaska residents were able to claim a complimentary deck of "Wild 4 UNO" cards today at city hall.

"UNO has been a family favorite for nearly half a century and for the first time, we're changing the rules.  The people of Juneau are going to enjoy 'Wild 4 UNO' when the weather is not quite as beautiful as it is today," said Ray Adler, Director of Games at Mattel.  "We're so appreciative of city officials for playing along and allowing us to borrow a little of the 'wild side' they call home."

The Juneau Community Foundation promotes philanthropy and responds to the needs of the community.  The Foundation was established to make it easy for Juneau residents to donate to causes they feel strongly about, such as local recreation programs, schools, scholarships, social services, arts and humanities, or other nonprofit agencies.
